I am seeing duplicate, and in some cases, triplicate copies
of posts to the list. There is no pattern, it's not every
post, but it is happening with enough frequency that
I am noticing a half dozen occurances per day.
I've checked the obvious places on my own system
for clues to the cause, but find no hints in any logs.
The headers of a post I just received three copies of
are shown below. The second received line (reading
bottom to top) shows the delivery between lists.suse.com
and my ISP (Pacbell, which is SBC, which is Prodigy).
The three identical messages all show different
times for that delivery, which makes me think
the problem is either on SuSE's end, or my
ISP's end.
1st Msg ->Tue, 3 May 2005 21:27:27 -0700
2nd Msg->Tue, 3 May 2005 21:38:29 -0700
3rd Msg-> Tue, 3 May 2005 21:57:39 -0700
Note that the 1st received line on all three
messages has an identical timestamp,
4 May 2005 04:31:31 -0000
Anyone else seeing duplicates like this? If
other subscribers are seeing something
similar, it would seem to point to lists.suse.com
as the problem. If not, my ISP must be
the problem.
Scott

I am subscribed to several mailing lists from Suse, but suse-linux-e is the only one that delivers these double posts. Must be a mailing list problem. Sometimes I even see my own posts double and I know that only put the list address in the to: field. Sandy

Yeah, I just noticed I got several dupes of newsletters from CNet, all had the same pattern in the headers (sender contacts ISP several minutes after first delivery and delivers message again, almost like the first one errored out or something). I'd sure like to know what's causing it, it's irritating, but at least it is nice to know that the problem is external to my system :) Scott -- POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.11.4-20a-default x86_64

I have been seeing them on another list, totally un-related to SuSE. It co-incided with adding a second CPU, so I was blamely Postfix. I had not noticed in on the list. Guess I can stop blaming synchronization problems. Jeffrey

I love it, funny thing is, your post duplicated :)
That's right, two copies delivered here!

The full thread explains that. The problem is not a lists.suse.com problem, it looks like it is a problem with my ISP, SBC. I'm now seeing complaints from others on their forums who are experiencing the same 'dupe' issue. When I started the thread, that information wasn't available and I was seeking to determine exactly where the problem was occurring. Since then, it has become clear that the culprit is my ISP, not the list here (which explains why you are not seeing the dupes).
