[opensuse] uninstall dolphin and konqueror??
Howdy all, I try to do a zypper patch at least once a week. This morning when I went to do the patch, this is something that came up: ------ # zypper patch Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... The following item is locked and will not be changed by any action: Available: apper The following 15 NEW patches are going to be installed: openSUSE-2015-398 openSUSE-2015-399 openSUSE-2015-402 openSUSE-2015-404 openSUSE-2015-405 openSUSE-2015-407 openSUSE-2015-408 openSUSE-2015-411 openSUSE-2015-412 openSUSE-2015-415 openSUSE-2015-416 openSUSE-2015-417 openSUSE-2015-418 openSUSE-2015-420 openSUSE-2015-421 The following 2 applications are going to be REMOVED: Dolphin Konqueror The following 75 packages are going to be upgraded: akonadi akregator btrfsprogs coreutils.... ------- So I am wondering, why would the system be set up to uninstall dolphin and konqueror on a simple patch? I use these all the time. Is there another file manager that is going to replace dolphin? What about konqueror? -- George Box #1: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 16GB Box #2: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | AMD Athlon X3 | 64 | 4GB Laptop #1: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | Core i7-2620M | 64 | 8GB Laptop #2: 13.2 | KDE 4.14 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Just to clarify my position, I notice that in the list of packages, a new "dolphin" and "konqueror" are included in the upgrades. But I am still confused why the old versions have to be uninstalled. On the update of KDE packages at https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-15.04.1.php, I couldn't find anything about having to remove and reinstall them, but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I am on laptop #2 below, using opensuse 13.2. -- George Box #1: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 16GB Box #2: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | AMD Athlon X3 | 64 | 4GB Laptop #1: 13.1 | KDE 4.12 | Core i7-2620M | 64 | 8GB Laptop #2: 13.2 | KDE 4.14 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Zypper works like that. Or rather, speaks like that. If you try the same update with YaST Online Update (YOU), you would probably see that those apps are to be updated. Zypper tricked me last week in the same way. and I even knew better! Of course zypper is "technically" correct, but its bed-side manner reminds me of the Fetching Mrs. Wolfgang when confronting my ignorance on any given matter...
