[opensuse] Clicking on links
When I click on an external link in a kmail or knews message, the link gets copied to a temporary file in /var/temp/something-or-other, which is then opened in the browser. This happens with both Konqueror and Firefox as default browser. What I would like (and expect) is for the browser to go directly to the external link. I'm using squid as a local proxy. Could it be something to do with squid, or is it a KDE setting? -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 openSUSE 10.3, Kernel 2.6.22.13-0.3-default, KDE 3.5.8 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As an example, I clicked on the following link in opensuse-announce: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/8 and Firefox went here: file:///var/tmp/kdecache-bob/krun/7650.0.8 -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 openSUSE 10.3, Kernel 2.6.22.13-0.3-default, KDE 3.5.8 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

simple answer it seems is squid , I can say for certain because it is one of the programs that i never install for the simple reason of it's butt assed way of doing things , Why do you need a Proxy in the first place ?. pete -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. Thanks. I'll take a closer look at the squid config.
Why do you need a Proxy in the first place ?.
Because I want to. -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 openSUSE 10.3, Kernel 2.6.22.13-0.3-default, KDE 3.5.8 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

/var/tmp/_whatever_ Only Windows calls their temporary directories "temp" In Unix and Linux, it's always /tmp or /var/tmp or /some/other/place/tmp

Are you planning on rewriting Konqueror and Firefox?

It's the application code. The files wouldn't be created in /var/tmp if the browsers weren't creating them. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm sure this is relatively new behaviour. The pages open without any background or images, and links in the page don't work. I'm quite sure that previously if I clicked on a link in a received email, such as http://www.demon.net then the default browser would fetch a file called index.htm from http://www.demon.net, not the contents of a file in my /var/tmp directory. Can you tell me what happens when you click on the above link, please? Thank you for your interest.
