Re: [SLE] Re: kde 2 final & kde 1.x apps
Eugene,
If you do move things around like this, and you then update to SuSE 7.0,
using the "Update exising system" method in Yast (section 15.1,3 of the
SuSE Linux 6.4 manual) I suspect that the update will fail for KDE.
Similarly, I think you may have problems using the SuSE RPMs for KDE 2.0 if
you move /opt/kde to /opt/kde1 - unless that is what the SuSE packager
wants everyone to do. In this case, this installation scripts and
documentation for KDE 2.0 will do this for you.
All of this is my own set of assumptions. I have sent a message to
feedback@suse.de asking for better documentation for the install process
for "final" KDE2.0.
Best regards
Eugene Tyurin

Paul, I guess I'm a bit too old-fashioned to care about this rpm crap. If I ever decide to upgrade to 7.0 without wiping out the partition, I'd simply rm -rf /opt/kde*. Yast does rpm --force anyway... After that it's simply a matter of merging $HOME/.kde with $HOME/.kde2 But I don't plan to upgrade to 7.x until it includes 2.4.x kernel! ;^) By the way, if any SuSE marketing people are reading this, here's my little rant. I paid for 6.4, but never registered, 'cos I'm on a crusade against direct marketing. Releasing a 7.0 before 2.4.0 kernel is a bit misleading, isn't it. Hey list Whadd'a'ya all ranting about ? SuSE have a tradition for releasing a .0 version wich is "next-kernel- ready". SuSE 6.0 included 2.0.36 as default, and was 2.2 ready. SuSE 6.1 was the first SuSE distro that included the 2.2.x kernel ( 2.2.5 to ba accurate :-) SuSE 7.1 will then VERY probably be out when 2.4.x has stabilized. Stop the rants, and appreciate that there really is someone out there that does all the work for you and saves you a hulluva lot of time. ( It's extremely rare that I HAVE to browse the internet for programs, last exeption being Asterisk-PBX. SuSE just have soooo much to offer. -tosi PS: nope, don't work for them, nope.. don't get free packages either..... :-) -----Original Message----- From: Eugene Tyurin [mailto:eugene_tyurin@yahoo.com] Sent: 7. oktober 2000 01:43 To: paul.c.leopardi@ac.com; suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Re: kde 2 final & kde 1.x apps On Sat, Oct 07, 2000 at 01:06:42PM +1100, paul.c.leopardi@ac.com wrote:
