[opensuse] titlebars/taskbar shadows
List, I just installed opensuse 11.0 on my desktop and only then realized that on my laptop there are no shadows on the titlebard and taskbar... So for example, I have my taskbar set to transparent, and on my desktop with compiz it drops a nice shadow (same with menus, etc.) With the shadow it looks like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/99111204@N00/2763306110/ Without http://www.flickr.com/photos/99111204@N00/2763310378/in/photostream/ It's opensuse with compiz latest updates on thinkpad t61 with Nvidia quatro. I have 3d acceleration enabled and drivers are installed with one-click. Do you guys know if that's something configurable from the compiz settings, or some video card issues? In KDE->Control Center->Appearance&Themes->Styles->(Effects Tab) then see: KDE->Control Center->Desktop->Window Behavior->(Translucency Tab) it seems with the latest KDE updates that a "ton" of user setting are written over on update as of late. -- David C. I played a bit with that stuff, nothing changed, and I also noticed that on my desktop the settings were exactly the same (So in Transcluency and Effect nothing is turned on) but the shadows werel there. It's kinda bad I can't get them running on my laptop, because they look so fancy with the reflection turned on. Any other suggestions? Sergey, Something is funky with suse and kde right now. For instance I have had many of my kde setting disappear, konqueror doesn't display man pages correctly anymore (if there is a normal and a posix page, clicking on the link konqueror now asks if I want to download?), window size has gone bonkers, and now sound has died! (I think it is a conspiracy by KDE4 clan to screwup KDE3) Seriously though, the only thing I can suggest is to add the KDE repositories and try to update the kde packages with: "yast->software management->package->all packages->update if a newer version is available" (de-select or mark as taboo anything you don't want to update) You can accomplish the same thing with "zypper up -t package", but you don't have as much control over what is updated. Here is a screenshot with shadows on my desktop - at least they still work... http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/kde/kde-shadow.jpg -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Thanks a lot David! That worked, now I have shiny cool shadows :-) I will check it out today in my office too, there are some weird problems there (titlebar/shadow colors go into mad colors like pink or bright green randomly) Sergey p.s. I didn't know that trick with "package-> all packages -> update", so much still to learn. -- Sergey Mkrtchyan, Graduate Student @ Department of Physics & Astronomy, Faculty of Science, University of Waterloo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
