I'm trying to install a MAME package on my laptop. The only one I've found which seems remotely supported is Kemulator. Seeing how there's no RPM's for Kemulator, I'm attempting to compile it. However, I'm running into issues. I've installed several packages. When running ./configure, I get the message: checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation! Okay, I installed that. I still get the message. I also made sure I had Qt3. Do I need Qt4? Most likely you'll be needing qt3-devel, not qt-devel. Unless you really want to compile it against qt4 (but note that since it says qt >= 2.2.2, it's unlikely to work with qt4) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

thank you. I have - according to YaST - qt3-devel 3.3.5-58 qt-devel 4.1.0-29.5 <steve martin mode> I'M SO CONFUSED! These compile messages can be terribly confusing. Sometimes when you get a message saying you need package foo, what's really missing is package bar, and the test build configure makes fails because of it In the build directory there is a file called config.log which contains the full output of configure. There you will find the real problem If you can't decipher it yourself, put it up somewhere on the net, and I (or someone else) can look at it and tell you what the real problem is -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hm, I think I already said what the problem was without realising it, actually. Looking at the home page for kemulator, it looks like it hasn't been touched since 2003, so it hasn't been ported to qt3/kde3. You would need kde2/qt2 to build it -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oh. :P It appears that is a dead end, then. I don't plan to downgrade or possibly mess up my KDE in order to run a game. Hmmm...maybe I'll try that out. After about thirty minutes of straight compile time - something I haven't seen since I was doing DOS work on a PS/2 system back in the early '90s - I got Advancemame to sort of work... http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/suse/2006/advmame.jpg ...of course, the screen size is a bit small.. I finally got MAME working on my system http://www.perfectreign.com/files/images/kxmame.preview.jpg http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/suse/2006/kxmame.jpg Thanks! I did it this way. I downloaded and installed xmame from http://x.mame.net/ I installed it by running the install from the script. This created an xmame.x11 executable somewhere. Note, there is a bunch of RPM files from guru that supposedly install XMAME but they have an issue in that you can't install one without the other, and the other won't install without the one. In any case, I installed KXmame from the above source. I had to downgrade to the command line to install, because - for some reason - I can't install RPM's from Konqueror. (I'll figure that one out next.) I then had to point KXmame to the right executable. I did a locate xmame.x11 and got the location folder - /user/local/bin/xmame.x11 Puting that in the settings, along with the path to my rom files (copied over from my Win2K machine) got me running. Cool screencaps, Kai!

I looked through Guru's site to give this a go and didn't find them. Are you sure it was his repository?

Also, Gamefu (f.k.a. Kamefu) is a current emulator/MAME frontend for KDE. While I haven't tried it myself (got this little thing called 10.2 keeping me busy) it is written by a guy I know from Kopete, it probably does the job. http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=36846 If anyone's interested I'll see about packaging it in the build service.
