Hello all. I have a server in which I can't manage cups using yast. CUPS works without any problem on http://localhost:631 and lpr, lpq, lpstat, etc are OK. However yast complains that the cups server is not reachable on localhost. Any idea? How is yast accessing cups? other may have more up to date info, be I think you can forget yast for printer management. I read somewhere that the yast module is not maintained and in fact it's much worst than plain cups jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, I don't think that is true.
may be: rpm -q --last yast-printer Tue 18 Oct 2016 08:36:14 PM EDT surely there have been quite a few new model printer since last October. but I usually use hplip or cups, rarely look at yast-printer for some years. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, but in openSUSE Leap you will not get an update of those till the next Leap release. You might get an update for a printer, and break others. So nothing touched.

By the same reason, CUPS itself is not updated till next Leap release. There is a repository with the next version, though. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

But we are not in the TW mail list, and TW was not specifically mentioned in the OP :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

I think this mailing list here to help both TW and Leap users. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

the context was really about "yast printers" not being maintained.... and Tw is more frequently updated than the other versions. showing the age of a package requiring frequent updating lends credence to it not being maintained. but I believe that the factory list is preferred for discussion of Tw due to its relative closeness to factory and not preferred for Leap. fwiw, I did not intend to open discussion of Tw here. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

But not every package changes at that speed. Anyway, I think the list of printers in YaST is taken from CUPS, it doesn't keep a list of its own. It doesn't need that many updates. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Yes, if one mentions it. Otherwise, I assume Leap :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))
