[opensuse] apache and pre-fork
When I am installing apache on SLES10 (during the SLES 10 install) I see that when apache is picked, it includes both the regular apache and the pre-fork. Is there a command-line switch or httpd.conf setting, to determine which apache kernel gets loaded? the "apache2" pacakge contains files common for all MPMs

you have to edit /etc/sysconfig/apache2 , change a variable named APACHE_MPM Note that if you use PHP, you **have** to use the prefork MPM, there is no support for others ( and will not be either) -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. thank you

why would PHP not support the current MPM? Seems odd to me. And yes, this has (though it is just installed and not in production) going to be a server with apache and php and mysql. I am going to be handing it off to the web devs soon ... is there any mysql or php general config (or apache for that matter) that needs to be done before these parts will play nicely together? The web-devs have worked with RedHat not SLES --- any SLES specific goodie/should-knows that I should pass to them? We only provide mod_php "apache2handler" built without thread safety support. You dont really want that anyway ;-) -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy.
