[opensuse] Flash player 11 Beta 1?
Has anyone here tried out the new Flash Player 11 Beta 1? http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11.html I've installed it (64 bit version), and it's working fine... for anyone who is playing with the P-Square player, you might want to poke this one too. at the forums, there's a thread about this. several (incl. me) have tried and it's working fine: http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/64-bit/462... the download doesn't only contain the ~.so file, but several others which, when copied to their respective locations under /usr, /lib64, etc., enable adjustment of global flash settings in KDE4 systemsettings; no idea if this works for other DEs too. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi There are two flash-player-properties, on is a KDE4 service, the other is the generic... Maybe an openFATE request to get them added to the NONFREE build? -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop up 8 days 9:25, 3 users, load average: 0.48, 0.17, 0.12 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 270.41.19 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

works just fine here, IMHO we should package it in the distribution asap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=flash-plugin&project=home%3Adnh I built that for me, but grab it if you like. Removed for license reasons. But I'll mail the .spec and stuff (not the tarball). -dnh -- There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. There is no need to include the plugin in the RPM, I think it would be enough to use a pullin package that downloads directly from adobe and then install the files. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I was mislead by a i586 RPM from macromedia/adobe themself I had installed and then AGAIN by the 10.3..i586.rpm in the non-oss and update repos of e.g oS11.4 both _including_ the libflashplayer.so. So, I apparently naively, I thought I could just package the Blob. AJ thought otherwise and as I closely read the License he seems right. Whatever you might think about that, esp. with a beta. I'm not the one to judge. Anyway: I'll think of it, and _at least_ I'll put a ((no)src.?)RPM with my .spec and stuff in my repo tomorrow or so, so you can grab that, DL the Flash Tarball and do a 'rpmbuild -ba flash-plugin.spec'. I've asked AJ (who notified me about the Problem via PM) though, maybe there's better option (besides that or me making a 'pullin' RPM). BTW: I've just had X lock up on me under WindowMaker starting a video on YT (one of the "Wanted" Trailers, ID started with "NF" IIRC). $ uname -r 2.6.37.6-0.5-default $ ls /usr/lib64/libGL.so.* /usr/lib64/libGL.so.270.41.06 [/usr/lib64/libGL.so.1] $ rpm -qf `which X` xorg-x11-server-7.6_1.9.3-15.22.2.x86_64 [later X versions (with that VNC patch) ruin my keymapping, haven't got round to bugzilla that tough, oh, and same probs under gentoo] $ glxinfo | less [selected output] server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation server glx version string: 1.4 OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8400 GS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 270.41.06 glu version: 1.3 ATM I got other stuff, but I'll test it a bit more these days. -dnh -- I had a big argument with my wife. Hi I see another user is packaging it, can you confirm how/why you removed your build? https://build.opensuse.org/package/files?package=flash-player&project=home%3AGrieff -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop up 20:05, 6 users, load average: 0.22, 0.17, 0.15 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 280.13 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Given the significant performance and usability improvements over the default proprietary Flash for 11.3 and 11.4, and the P-Square version for 64-bit.... I would agree. It's still not 100% (some cases it fails or crashes - see the Adobe Labs forums) but it's much better than existing options. I've been testing on as many different Flash web pages as I can, and so far I've only seen one fail (plugincrashed message) and it wasn't on a mainstream website. Hulu, YouTube, Flash game sites all work, and with lower CPU load, smoother performance, and I can full screen without the flash video playing behind the browser.
