CWSIV Well, kdeconnect-kde works fine for me. But you don't tell what OS the phone has, whether it has USB / bluetooth etc.

Check if you are trying on a USB 3.0 port and if that's the case, check with a USB 2.0 port. Just a wild catch, but have seen it.

Have you tried your USB cable on another phone or device? Some USB cables are wired for charging only and don't support device identification and data transfers. I've run into this a few times. Regards, Lew

did you look *on the phone* if there is not an usb menu somewhere? Long time ago it was in a "developer" menu, but this vary a lot depending of android version jdd -- https://artdagio.fr

There are few options: - What others have suggested, it's called "MTP". GNOME and KDE automatically show the device, when it's plugged and allow to browse files from a phone in their file managers. There are other options to use MTP (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Media_Transfer_Protocol), although I've never used any of them. On your phone, after plugging in, you must check it's configured for file transfer, not only for charging. - KDEConnect (https://kdeconnect.kde.org/) is an app that you can install on the android device. KDE has it's part installed by default. Under GNOME you can use "GSConnect" extention. There are options to make it work with other DE's: https://www.maketecheasier.com/use-kde-connect-with-mate-ubuntu-debian/ . It works over WIFI, so no cable needed. - Last resort: enable developer options on the phone and use "adb pull" to download files (https://developer.android.com/tools/adb#copyfiles). You can use "adb shell ls /sdcard/DCIM/Camera" to list files.

It's an Android phone, so why bother mounting it to retrieve photos when you could save them to your Google account and download them directly from there via the web interface? It works for me. Regards, Lew
Its not a fancy phone with internet access. Its a primitive phone with a
camera and no touch screen.
It does come with a usb to usb c cable but I tried to mount in 15.5 and it
was not recognized.

It doesn't take much to mount an Android phone. Just plug it in with USB and allow data on the phone and then open it on the desktop.
Except I tried on 15.5 under MATE and it did not mount. Perhaps its an
android knockoff??
