[oS-en] printing from Mozilla apps
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, since a few months back, when printing from Thunderbird or Firefox, I get an internal printing dialog of Thunderbird or Firefox. But some setting is wrong that makes the printer pop its yellow light with a prompt for feeding A4 or press OK for use what is available (and the printer is loaded with A4). And the Mozilla dialog says the size is A4. This means that for every print I have to get up from my chair and go to the printer to press that key. An option at the end of the dialog says "print using the system dialog". If I use this, there is no error and the printer fires immediately. Possibly what is missing is the tray selector in the mozilla dialog. Ideas? I'm using Leap 15.3, XFCE, and the stock Thunderbird / Firefox. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. This is a well-known problem and you can ask Google about it.
Can you suggest what question to ask google?
The workaround for now is to not use the Moziila apps for printing.
I don't know how to do that. If I want to print an email or a web page, I have no other method than use Thunderbird or Firefox. And that means I will get always the Mozilla print dialog. The only method I know is to always go down the dialog and select, manually, use the system print dialog. This is not permanent. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)

you could try to print to pdf and then open any pdf reader and print from there

That's way more clicks than just going to the bottom of the current print dialog in FF/TH and click "print using system print dialog". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Aquick search found https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1371179 which works for me.

Thank you for finding that information :-) The idea is to set print.prefer_system_dialog to true. Problem is, that disables the preview (yes, I want to have the cake and eat it). So, I prefer to do what the comment from jscher2000 says, which is what I'm doing now. I need the preview in order to adjust the zoom or know which pages to print. IIRC, previously there was a menu entry under "File" for "Print preview". At least some settings in the mozilla dialog are passed to the system print dialog: number of pages, zoom... I would be happy using the mozilla print dialog if it worked right. It doesn't expose the setting of "paper source" aka "input tray", which I guess is the cause for the printer error that makes me having to get up from the chair for every print job. I type "printer paper source" in the mozilla support search. There are 5 hits, but none is about my problem. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)

So, what you are proposing is not use Firefox nor Thundebird? Doctor, it hurts when I get up. Then don't get up. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.3 x86_64 at Telcontar)
