Hi, I use CUPS on a whole load of machines where I work, however it is used quite heavily on one machine with about 100 users printing all day from it. Yesterday, all of a sudden, whenever I try to send a print to any of the printers on this system using lpr or lp, the print doesn't print, and the processor usage for that job goes through the roof, e.g. line from top : 27163 root 14 0 488 488 396 R 99.9 0.0 0:08 lpd This causes all other prints to hold for some reason and of cause all the users to phone me up! I can print fine using lp or lpr -l - so could it be something to do with the filters?? I have tried restoring the /etc/cups directory on my system to Sunday - before the problems started, but this still doesn't fix anything. I have also noticed that I am unable to click on the "Configure printer" button from the CUPS admin web page, I get a time out and this error in my logs : E [08/Nov/2002:12:33:09 +0000] PID 30103 crashed on signal 9! Can anyone give me clues to try and fix this, I am pretty new to cups problems, as in the past it has just "worked". Please can anyone help? Is there anyway I can build my own rpm for CUPS 1.1.16? -- Thanks, Andrew McCall Internet/Linux System Administrator I.C.T. Hi Andrew, The only advise I can really offer is to have a look at the log files under /var/log/cups and see if there are any errors (quite sure there will be) and work from there. You may need to increase the debug level in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf but be warned that you can get swamped with debug messages on the higher levels.
