My advice is don't use the SuSE firewall setup. I spent a day trying to get it to work and everytime I started the firewall I couldn't connect.
So in rc.config: START_FW="no">
I have SuSE 6.3 and i'm in teh process of setting up a firewall. thus far I have been using HOT-TO, which basicaly tell you hwo to use IP chains, I have not seen any entry for START_FW="no" i m assuming thats a 6.4 thing. can anyone clarrify. perhaps point me in the right direction Rowan [TSS] Gerber Scientific Products http://www.gspinc.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I have been using the SuSE firewall script for about 6 months and am very happy with it. I have just upgraded to 6.4 and all is working fine. I have a cable connection and need some security and SuSE was the ticket for me. I have ip_masq working to the other 3 computers (1 windoz and two SuSE). The only problem is using things like webcams due to the protocol and port stuff. Hope this helps some. "Reid, Rowan (GSP)" wrote:

Have you installed the firewalls programe in yast - sec (security)? If so it should have added a file /etc/rc.firewall. From memory, it is there you will find START_FW. The firewall package from the SuSE 6.3 CD's didn't work. If i remember correctly this was because some important links were missing in the rpm. I downloaded the bugfixed version and my problems were solved. Marcel

If you look at the SuSE firewall script it looks at that setting to see if the script should run or not. Look at /sbin/rcfirewall (/sbin/init.d/firewall) and /sbin/SuSEfirewall. Look at /sbin/rcfirewall (/sbin/init.d/firewall) and /sbin/SuSEfirewall.
If you look at rc.firewall you'll see that the newer versions of SuSEfirewall check rc.config if the firewall should be started, not rc.firewall. -- SuSE Linux 6.3 -o) | No problem is so formidable that you can't just Kernel 2.2.14 /\ | walk away from it. on a i686 _\_v | mailto:frhart@home.nl | -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
