I'm trying to get ALSA working and am having trouble. I've got a Crystal CS4236B chipset (soundcard) on my Dell Optiplex GX1. I'm using SuSE 6.4 and the ALSA rpms included in that. Question: I'm building my own kernel (from the sources on the 6.4 CD), should I build sound support as a module or into the kernel? After an afternoon of experimentation I've found out compiling sound support built into the kernel works fine, I had just forgot to unmute the master volumne control from ALSA. Jamie On Thu, 20 Apr 2000, Jamie O'Shaughnessy wrote:

module - that way you can use Alsa, OSS or kernel modules. OSS has a Crystal driver - I'm running it right now. On Thu, 20 Apr 2000, Jamie O'Shaughnessy wrote:
