Hello gurus.
Happy new year to all !!
I would like to replace an Windows 2K3 Server (AD) for a Samba3, but one of the requirements is that workstations users being able to share to others users any directory or printer they want from their own machines.
Let's say:
ComputerA -\ /-ComputerB
|----------------------->|--DirectoryXX
PrinterYY--|<-----------------------|
As far as i've read at samba's doc, all the shares are made at the server side for clients to access, but what i need is to be sure that users can share to other users and give permissions to those shares, just like an active directory environment.
Samba 3 is not Activity Directory (work in progress I understand for version 4). What it can do is act as Domain contoller (PDC) as well as authenticate users against AD using kerboros in a Windows AD Environment. A fully implemented Samba PDC can authenticate users, run login scripts, support profiles, and share resources. Would suggest you reference the OReilley OpenSource Books (compendiums) on Samba3.

Thanks Clint. I've asked the same question at samba's irc channel, and people there tells me that what i need is possible, it's only at the client's site so there won't be any trouble, hope they're right, i'll be telling the list the results as soon as i test it.
