[opensuse] Nobody knows what lsb3.2 is ?
Hello SuSE people, I guess not because nobody replied. So I am trying again. Trying to install a gutenprint driver for a new Epson CX Stylus 9400 on 10.3. RPM claims that it needs lsb3.2. (The drivers are built using lsb3.2) My SuSE 10.3 has only lsb3.1 according to Yast. Tried to upgrade it to lsb3.2 and I get "no interesting upgrades". Trying to install it and I get a "lsb3.1 is already installed" According to linuxprint.org SuSE is already using lsb3.2. Apparently not. lsb is "Linux Standard Base", and the package contains only a few files: /etc/lsb-release /etc/lsb-release.d /etc/lsb-release.d/desktop-3.1-ia32 /etc/lsb-release.d/desktop-3.1-noarch /etc/lsb-release.d/graphics-2.0-ia32 /etc/lsb-release.d/graphics-2.0-noarch /etc/lsb-release.d/graphics-3.1-ia32 /etc/lsb-release.d/graphics-3.1-noarch /lib/ld-lsb.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.3 * /usr/bin/lsb_release /usr/share/man/man1/lsb_release.1.gz Both 10.3 and 11.0 have the same version: lsb-3.1-63 and lsb-3.1-100 cer@nimrodel:~> lsb_release -a LSB Version: core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-noarch:core-2.0-ia32:core-3.0-ia32:desktop-3.1-ia32:desktop-3.1-noarch:graphics-2.0-ia32:graphics-2.0-noarch:graphics-3.1-ia32:graphics-3.1-noarch Distributor ID: SUSE LINUX Description: openSUSE 10.3 (i586) Release: 10.3 Codename: n/a vs LSB Version: core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-noarch:core-2.0-ia32:core-3.0-ia32:desktop-3.1-ia32:desktop-3.1-noarch:graphics-2.0-ia32:graphics-2.0-noarch:graphics-3.1-ia32:graphics-3.1-noarch Distributor ID: SUSE LINUX Description: openSUSE 11.0 (i586) Release: 11.0 Codename: n/a

You should post a new mail with request for help on how to install that specific printe on the mail subject.

Then it is not an rpm for suse. Find another one built for suse. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFIQwPptTMYHG2NR9URAusHAJ0cc0LglDePbqYsVX7+gjWQLuRJswCeMVX1 KMlg1p8rKGDCq/DCjCKezlY= =ov/p -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

See my reply to Andrew Joakimsen. I did a search for gutenprint on the SuSE-Novell site. They only have the 5.0.1 driver and according to linuxprinting.org the new printer requires the 5.0.2lsb3.2 driver. Which would be installable if 10.3 used lsb3.2 instead of lsb3.1 Hence my question about upgrading lsb from 3.1 to 3.2. I already do have the gutenprint-5.0.1 drivers installed Not sure what you mean by the "OBS Printing". Did I not look in the right place? Maybe I'll try a "force" on the rpm. Marcus? Any advice here? Replying to my own post with new info. First of all I kept saying linuxprinting org when I really meant linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting. Sorry - onset of dementia. I then did a --nodeps on the rpm and it installed just fine, Seems to show up in the right places anyway. The "how to install" info tells you how to make the lsb3.1 compliant with lsb3.2 so it should work. Will try the actual install tomorrow. Getting kind of late. Also need to let openprinting.org know about the --nodeps requirement when installing into an lsb3.1 system. Hope this helps someone trying to install the new gutenprint-5.0.2 drivers. I see. You are correct, but this is the last few entries in the changelog for gutenprint 5.01, i.e. joe@jmorris:~> rpm -q gutenprint gutenprint-5.0.1-53.46 * Fri Jun 08 2007 - kssingvo@suse.de - added ghostscript-ijs-devel to BuildRequires * Wed Apr 25 2007 - kssingvo@suse.de - fixed LSB required directories to latest information * Wed Apr 25 2007 - kssingvo@suse.de - added LSB 3.2 required directories So the package has been made compliant it appears, but I can see it may be too old to support your printer.
I already do have the gutenprint-5.0.1 drivers installed

OpenSUSE Build Service = OBS, or http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_10.3/ If your printer needs 5.02, then I guess you had no choice. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
How about answering, for what distribution does the RPM claim to be for? On Sun, Jun 1, 2008 at 4:03 PM, Bob S <911@sanctum.com> wrote:

According to linuxprint.org it is for any linux distribution. A fairly recent concept that will make gutenprint available for any and all linux users, OS's if lsb3.2 is used. It is gutenprint-5.0.2-2lsb3.2.i486. Unfortunately it is the only gutenprint driver available for the new epson printer.
