[opensuse] package updates on oS 13.1
I know 13.1 is a bit long in the tooth, but... I have been trying to disable the checking for package updates in KDE. I have tried using systemctl to disable the various packagekit things, as well as the desktop config tool to disable the thing it claims is doing this. All to no avail. I seem to recall that the only way to really disable this is to remove some packages. I don't recall which ones they are. Anyone recall? -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm still on 13.1 but I disabled packagekit not long after installing over two years ago. I'm using YaST Software Management's Show History dialog to take a look now. There was a day a couple of months after install where all the following were deleted: PackageKit-browser-plugin PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin PackageKit-gtk3-module apper-lang apper libpackagekit-qt2-6 PackageKit-branding-openSUSE PackageKit-backend-zypp PackageKit I don't know which amongst them triggered the rest to be uninstalled. I guess try deleting apper and PackageKit first. gumb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

PackageKit seems to be on the GTK side of things, apper on the KDE. I do note that removing PackageKit also removes 'gnome-color-manager'. Why that is makes no sense to me. I've run into a few of these pointless, unjustifiable dependencies in the past and expect to do so in the future. I also note that t the GitHub for 'gnome-color-manager' a change explicitly says " Don't depend on software we are not using". That's for the "build", mind you. -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There is Evergreen :-)

I taboo these: PackageKit-browser-plugin - Simple software installation management software PackageKit-gtk3-module - Simple software installation management software apper - KDE interface for PackageKit gnome-packagekit - Applications for the PackageKit API pk-update-icon - Software Update Notifier based on PackageKit - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Since I am targeting KDE, perhaps it is enough to remove apper? That is the thing I have disabled in the desktop configuration, to no effect. Will this also stop the messages about trusting repos? I know that I could probably go through the step of accepting them once and then the messages will not appear. But I would be happy for the probing that causes this also not to happen. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, I don't use KDE, yet I also removed apper, which is the KDE gadget :-) Just remove them all, except the libraries that are required by other deps.

Depends on what makes the messages. If apper/packagekit is not there, it can not pop messages. But YaST will, certainly. Just once. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Indeed. But this is not when running YaST. It is a dialog that pops up on the desktop. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah. Then I assume that it is done by apper, so it will disappear. I don't have it in my system (using xfce), that I know. :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
