I just saw the prices Dell is charging for laptops. Hmmmm... I have read the reports of people who used SuSE on a Dell Inspiron 8600 and they seem grudgingly positive at best. Anyone load 9.2 on an Inspiron 8600? Any problems? dj tuchler

I did see one very uninformative report of an i. 8600 with SuSE 9.2. The reviewer was mainly interested in complaining about laptops and operating systems. He sort of gave the 8600 a clean bill of health but gave no details on the outcome of the installation, etc. dj tuchler
If its of any help I have 9.1 on a dell I 8500 - apart from suspend ( an ongoing ACPI issue ) everyhting works great, install picked up network, modem, 3D acceleration the works. Burns CDs and plays DVDs fine, under Gnome ( I usually use windowmaker ) even the multimedia keys can be mapped to be usefull. USB fine for cameras and memory sticks. I do not have blutooth on it but the IR works fine for phone and camera phone. Needed to tweak xconfig to compensate for the wide screen but was easy enough. HTH F
