[opensuse] Virtual machine with Windows
Hello guys, i want to run virtual machine with windows some time from my current Linux Suse 10.2 desktop. In windows i use "Bank client" software. This software can be used only in windows + IE ;) Right now i use VMware player. What other soft can be used for create and run of VM with Windows? I have some experiment with quemu, but it is extremely slow... Kvm and Xen is not run on my processor (AMD 64, but without support of virtualization) kqemu can help me? and where i can find this package for current version of my Suse 10.2 64 bit and kernel? If you are talking about using Quicken you can run it using wine or Crossover Office. I have been doing so for a couple of years. Ken -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use VirtualBox.... works great. http://www.virtualbox.org/ There is an RPM for openSUSE10.2 available on the website. Works basically like VMWare... in fact, I'd say that for most purposes, it actually works better than VMWare. Since he has Vmware player, I can be fairly certain he will not be happy with virtualbox. Its Vastly inferior with regard to hardware and networking options. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

He asked what other software he could use to setup a VM.... so... While the hardware and networking options may be more limited with VirtualBox it still does a very good job. I run an XP install in VirtualBox and in VMWare. Consistently, VirtualBox runs Windows better than in VMWare - especially for light duties (ie home use) like running bank software once in a while. I would like to know how VirualBox emulated hardware is so limited though... you get a video card that works fine - especially when you pump up the ram to 128MB. Then I can play full screen video with no problems in XP on VBox. The network card works perfectly... and it is dead easy to add more cards. The hard drive is simple to configure and very easy to add more. You have bidirectional clipboard... shared directories... in fact I am not missing any functionality that I have with VMWare, and it loads up and starts the guest OS much faster.
