[opensuse] Is there a new cli webpin in 13.1 - or a slick curl command -- or something that will work?
All, As we lament *webpin* that passed into oblivion around 11.3, I though I would check to see if there is a new command line replacement for it? If not, does anybody have a slick workaround using curl or the like? Here is a bad hack example for *mkisofs* (after zypper refused to install several packages because *mkisofs* "wasn't" installed [it was already installed ... provided by cdrkit-cdrtools-compat]) curl "https://software.opensuse.org/package/mkisofs?search_term=mkisofs" | \ grep "repositories\|package" | \ sed -e 's/^.*="//' -e 's/">.*$//' -e 's/%3A/:/g' If anybody has any other suggestion for a quick command-line search, I welcome you ideas. A command line tool that can query all repositories (whether subscribed or not) to locate a needed file/rpm is a "must-have" feature. zypper se -s only works for subscribed repos, so I am looking for a solution that works regardless of subscription. -- David C. Ah, so you hit that one too? I did find a workaround for that it and I don't think it involved "Break xxx by ignoring some of its dependencies" either, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was now. There might even have been a bug report for it. Sorry i can't be more help with that one. -- ============================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au ============================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I hit it and it left me scratching my head: $ rpm -q --whatprovides `which mkisofs` cdrkit-cdrtools-compat-1.1.11-30.1.x86_64 WFT?? Forum posts -- just ignore it and break devede, dvdshrink, etc... Evidently the packman packages are looking for mkisofs in the wrong place: http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/492239-problem-installing-devede-o... -- David C. cnf - but AFAIK it only searchs installed repos. I think it works off-line. Otherwise, there is mozilla search engine bar or whatever they call it. same place as google and the rest. And there is an alternative search place, I don't have the link handy, that searchs packman as well, as webpin did, but does not always work. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Bah-humbug ;p I'll work on the curl solution. It does a good job getting the packages from download.opensuse.org. We just have to clean up the parsing and maybe handle the return in some sort of data structure for pretty output. webpin was python, but I think we can do something similar with short script. Try the curl command, not pretty, but it works :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No way. osc wants a ton of dependencies, and needs a valid account at the OBS. It is a tool for developers, not users. On this machine, it wants 14 new packages, and 11 recommended, requiring 90 MB to be installed. That's a far cry from webpin. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Why not $ zypper se -v --provides mkisofs ? Have a nice day, Berny -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

For this case, perhaps. For just finding the package providing a file, "cnf" works wonders - if you already have the repo containing it active. If that is not the case, then you are out of luck, because "webin" was a marvelous tool while it lasted. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Only works for *configured* repositories. webpin would search *all* opensuse repositories regardless of whether the user added them or not. That was the beauty of webpin. -- David C. Actually, webpin is still functional. Check the openSUSE tools repository. -- Regards, Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
