Which future SuSE release is going to be GCC 4.0 based?
Hi, I am on 9.1 Pro right now and I contemplated on moving to just released 9.3. However, I am thinking that I should rather wait till the SuSE release which will be GCC 4.0 based. Do we know which is the next SuSE release and will it be based on GCC 4.0 based? What is the expected time for the release? Thanks, -- Osho

You can download it now from suse-projects (I saw it at least for suse-9.3 and 9.2) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I would think it would be wize to wait for the second or even third SUSE release that's based on GCC 4.x - that way most of the showstopper bugs and issues that's bound to be present when you do such a major shift, will be ironed out.
Remember the issues with browser plug-ins ect. when SuSE 8.1 was released (first SuSE to use GCC 3). I don't know if the differences between 3 and 4 are as big as between 2 and 3, but I'm sure there will be some issues initially. --- Kind regards Hans du Plooy SagacIT (Pty) Ltd hansdp at sagacit dot com

From what I read, gcc 4.0 changes the c++ ABI again, so we will have the exact same issues with this one *sigh*

Just as long as they don't call them features... now where have I heard that before? :-) -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR

Not necessarily. BTW, that'S also the reason why we're going from 3.3 with lots of additions to 4.0. gcc 3.4 also changes the ABI, so you would have had that transition twice. Philipp
