[opensuse] tar file on desktop
Using 11.0 with kde 4 and here is 1 thing i do not like with kde4 (i guess it is kde4's fault): if i have a tar file on my desktop, i can no longer right click that tar file and select "extract here". Is this something that will come back as kde4 matures or is that gone for good? Is there any way to get it back now? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you request that feature added back at bugs.kde.org, I'm sure they would. -- "We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than only freedom can make security more secure." Karl Popper

Hi, I downloaded 11.0 over the weekend and installed it today on my old PIII laptop. I also installed kde4 so I could see for myself what all the fuss was about. I found like you that it was possible to extract the files from tarball, but not with a right click command. I was able to click on the widget, then Ark would come up. I could use it to extract the files to desktop. When I did that the files and the installer extracted separately on the desktop. I played around with Ark and was able to get both to extract to the same directory. But when I tried to install rkhunter from the colocated extracted file with both the files and the installer, it wouldn't install. I was trying to install the extracted file from command line like I normally do, but that didn't work. I was running out of time so I switched the desktop to kde 3 and installed rkhunter. It wasn't apparent to me how it could be done in kde4, and I didn't have time to figure it out any further. My only other observation about kde4 is that it is a little too much for the PIII 600 laptop with 512mb ram. It started to stall intermittently when multiple apps were open. When I switched back to kde3, it ran smoothly. Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
