Hello, Cloned a SuSE/Windows laptop drive and if I try to boot from it I get a L 999 999 999... ad infinitum. Is the MBR toast? Lilo was used as the boot loader. Anyway to repair this? Thank you in advance. James

I'd use the the very useful "repair existing system" option of the 9.2 install disk. Boot from the Suse 9.2 Pro CD and choose "Install" Just before you get to the screen where you select the partitioning and packages, you will meet a screen that says there is an existing system, one option is to boot it, another is to repair it. Choose repair and ask for the expert option. A lot of the tests are time-consuming and you know the problem is with the boot loader. Expert gives you a screen to directly choose to fix just the bootloader. Edit each bit of the boot loader setup, in cases like this I always tick the box to replace the Master Boot Record with generic code. Check you have an entry for the windows system, and tell it to finalise the changes. See if it boots now, unless disk positions have changed it should. michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166

You forgot to run lilo on the system. You may boot the rescue system, tell it to boot installed system, then run lilo. Or boot the rescue system (CD/DVD), mount your HD root partition, chmod to it, run lilo, reboot. Or use repair system from CD. Or... -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
