Galileo Technology Ltd. is now Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 4362 is a gigabit ethernet controller. Ronald, to start with I think you need to upgrade your pciutils package. That'll give you an up-to-date listing with lspci. Second, you need to check to see if you're using the latest Marvell driver for your gigabit network. I had expected two devices to show up, but if both your interfaces are gigabit, maybe there is just the one device and the driver create two interfaces out of it. (somehow). What's the exact Gigabyte model# of your motherboard? I remember discussing the Marvell drivers with someone else on this list not long ago. I don't know what the conclusion was. /Per Jessen, Zurich -- http://www.spamchek.ch/freetrial - lassen Sie sich überzeugen - 30 Tage Kostenlos!

Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 (Athlon) yes, it has a wireless antenna, .. where do I get all the parts to upgrade? I tried Google for some hours, but could not find it. Thanks for your help! bye Ronald

pciutils - depending on your suse-version, you could just use YOU, or simply grab the latest version here: ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/software/utils/ upgrading pciutils is not absolutely necessary. For the Marvell ethernet controller, you suspect you will need the latest drivers from Marvell. This looks like the only Marvell GigE driver - http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=107&pId=10 The source files seems to be from around august 2004, so your installed SuSE version may be up-to-date. Try loading the sk98lin module, then post the last/relevant lines of dmesg output. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/freetrial - sign up for your free 30-day trial now!

I love this one (!) - Sorry, I could not resist, but my Ethernet card is not working ;-)

I will try this one!

Thanks Per Jessen and scsijon! Your answered helped me a lots! I am now able to connect with ONE ethernet card, but the second card is not recognized. Since I usually use two Ethernet cards, I hope we can solve that problem too. BTW, do you know how to setup the wireless? I would like to use a wireless network for my PDA, ....

not having seen 2 gigabyte ports on a mb before, i'd have a look at the driver source (if provided or available) and see if it's programmed to enable 2 instances of itself. I suspect maybe not, in which case you need to contact the creator for help. having looked at the board's data, on their website, I suspect it's the same chip handling both ports. Most of the dualport gigabyte boards i've seen have one gigabyte port and one 10/100 port. This site infers it uses one of the ports to dual-purpose handle the .11g also so it may be a hybrid again and the linux device driver people may need contacting anyway. scsijon

Any chance of taking a look on the motherboard and checking what's written on the chip itself? Your lspci doesn't help us much further, other than it's a Marvell chip with device 4362 (by the way, are you sure you got pci.ids updated correctly? The listing you copied still said "Galileo Technology Ltd." not "Marvell". I saw that Marvell had some new chips out with dual-port capability, but they seem to new to have gone into a Gigabyte design already.
BTW, do you know how to setup the wireless? I would like to use a wireless network for my PDA, ....
http://www.bb-zone.com/misc/rt2500/ Have you asked Giagbyte? The manufacturers are some times remarkably good with tech support. (I've had *excellent* support from e.g. AOpen and Amigo). /Per Jessen, Zürich

OK, you say that was from /var/log/messages though? I would still suspect some more output from dmesg. Try unloading and loading the module? /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/freetrial - sign up for your free 30-day trial now!
