Here is a news snip from the Novell site. Hope this helps. dg Availability and Pricing OpenSUSE 10.2 is now available for free download at http://www.opensuse.org. The retail edition of openSUSE 10.2 will be available on http://www.shopnovell.com later this week, as well as in select retail locations. I found no mention of any retail locations. Am I, or am I not, going to be able to run down to the local Best Buy in a week or so and buy the box? Thanks Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Novell usually have a promo where they ship free when they first
release the box for sale on their site. Perhaps worth waiting to see
if they do it again.
Keep checking http://www.novell.com/linux/. There is usually a really
big banner ad when they do it.

Mark, if you're in the U.S. I think you have to order it via http://shop.novell.com. It is available for order now for $59.95 + $5 shipping. I'm very familiar with what I get with the BOX. I've bought every one since 6.0 down the street at Best-Buy or Comp-USA. I don't understand. Why won't I be able to purchase it in the same manner as I _always_ have. What has changed? Why? This is very disturbing to me. Nah.. I am sure you will see Novell marketing & sales guys plugging SUSE at Linux roadshows coming Jan/Feb 07. It's approaching the holiday season and everything is winding down. I am glad the SUSE project teams managed to release 10.2 before the holidays. Gives all us geeks something to play with. So far, 10.2 has proven to be a great release edition. I probably tweaked a total on 1 or 2 hours -- everything else worked perfectly right out of install. And more importantly, the YOU issue is fixed. -- "Develop success from failures. They are grown ups capable of making their own decisions. I can't get upset about these things anymore. If this is even true. Perhaps OpenSUSE.org (it is an organization, no?) can strike a deal with Novell to let OpenSUSE (the org) sell a boxed set. It is disturbing to me too --especially after the MS-Novell deal, but I don't want to re-open that can of worms... Maybe Novell just wants to focus on SLES and SLED at retail? Well, what if one doesn't use credit cards? This combined with other recent events with SuSE are of my biggest concerns in life right now. I'm sorry your life is so difficult and mine so easy John. I hope things get better for you. But also, our company buys and delivers SuSE linux with our product. We just shipped a series of machines with SuSE-10 (A box for every box) included because our product is certified on 10.0 or less. We have had no problems getting older releases in the past. I would guess that this will be 'mucking' all this up as well. Will they continue to sell me a 10.2 box even after 10.4 is released? Or will this turn out to be part of a MicroSoftish ploy to force companies to buy the SLES version instead of the regular version? Where is your company located (rhetorical) and where is the nearest Novell office to you? I'd be bugging a local sales rep about this since they should be a little closer to the answers than us. Don't know your quantities involved here but maybe they'd even work a deal and round up excess inventory of previous releases to keep your company happy. Usually Amazon.com has previous versions available for quite a long time. Most of the Novell/SUSE employees on these lists are involved with the software _not_ the marketing, packaging, corporate decision making. So whether or not Novell/SUSE would continue to provide 10.2 when 10.4/11.x is out probably can't be answered here. And if you do try my idea, let us know how it goes. I'd be willing to bet that with the introduction of SLED long term support in any fashion for the "open" version will be limited to the programs outlined by opensuse's charter.
