Hi! I have, on my computer, KDE 2.2.2 on Suse Linux 7.3 Pro. The new KDE seems to be very interesting and I'm thinking to update to it. Before, I would want to know if it is working fine. Is it safe to update to it? I don't have a lot of time to spend in debugging but if it is possible I would like to try it. So where, on the suse FTP, can I get the recent RPMS for KDE3, those done by SuSE? I must install a new QT, is it at the same place? What I packlages I must get? And when I got all packages, what I must do in sequence to uodate safely? Another question, is it possible to have KDE2 and KDE3 on the same computer and add the choice in the login manager at startup. So if, by example, I'm not able in a finite time to make KDE3 working, I can get back in KDE2 in a seconds and continue to work? I don't know if SuSE made their own packages, but KDE made packages for SuSE on their FTP site: ftp.kde.org ... I forget exactly where, but it does have all the Qt rpms too DoPo

I forget exactly where, but it does have ::all the Qt rpms too The packages were made by a SuSE employee they are just not official SuSE pkgs. You have to remember that SuSE employs quite a few KDE people. :) I installed KDE3 on my home machine. I didn't touch KDE2 or QT 2.x.x. I just changed my shell rc file and /etc/rc.config to kde3 from kde2 and qt2 to qt3. When I started KDE3 it asked if it was to use my KDE2 settings or if I wished to start fresh. I told it to use the KDE2 settings and all my icons were there..same theme and all my settings for such things as Konq were dead on the money. I have had no issues at all and I updated the day the pkgs hit the kde.org server. I'm running it on 7.3 at home and 7.2 at work. No issues. :) -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around the more I think it might not be a bad thing." -JC --=====-----=====--

The KDE packages in the experimental directory where almost all updated on the 7th of april, so I guess they are _almost_ the final ones...

For the (suse-7.3) users that don't want to be worry about were the packages are located or don't want to manually figure out which are being updated, there is now APT (Advanced Package Tool). With this tool you keep kde3 (among others) up to date by executed apt-get update and apt-get upgrade only. More about it at http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net -- Richard Bos For those without home the journey is endless

I think KDE3 is a very good product!
