Hello, I'm reading that Xfree86 does not support external monitor on a laptop. Does this mean that if I use X, that I cannot use an external monitor? Somebody mentioned to me that their monitor went bad on their laptop. After hearing this, I now wonder if I could set up my laptop so that upon logging in at the consol, I could hit F1 - for laptop monitor F2 - for external monitor George -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I use an external monitor on my Compaq 1270 with XFree86 in FreeBSD and it works great. I would think that it would work with with Linux but I have not enough disk space to triple boot and I need win98 and FreeBSD on the portable for field use. Should not hurt to try it in a low res mode.
