Hi, I did not finish yet building my PC and my question to you is : What is the best ethernet card supported by GNU/Linux? Your help will be appreciated. Many thanks. Ali. Autodidact. In my experience, the Netgear FA-310TX (uses the Tulip driver) is one of the better cards. It's very reliable, has very low packet loss and on top of everything else, is quite inexpensive. - Herman On Thu, 3 Aug 2000, Ali Raqiq wrote: ->>Hi, ->> ->>I did not finish yet building my PC and my question to you is : ->>What is the best ethernet card supported by GNU/Linux? ->> ->>Your help will be appreciated. ->>Many thanks. ->> ->>Ali. ->>Autodidact. ->>Montreal. ->> ->>__________________________________________________ ->>Do You Yahoo!? ->>Kick off your party with Yahoo! Not sure which one is the best. I use Intel Ether Express Pro 100 and it works excellent for me on all the machines. Regards Umer Abdul Ahad Ali Raqiq wrote:

a safe bet would be 3com,..i've never had problems with them -----Original Message----- From: Ali Raqiq [mailto:mailist00@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, August 03, 2000 11:41 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Ethernet card: Need advise. Then you would be a lucky one. I've nothing but problems with 3Com, especially the 3C9XX PCI cards. They almost all seem to have problems getting IP's in a DHCP environment (at least with SuSE) and the probs have always cleared if I replaced then with Intel or Netgear. Furthermore, they have horrendous packet loss under high loads. - Herman On Fri, 4 Aug 2000, ms wrote: ->>a safe bet would be 3com,..i've never had problems with them ->> ->>-----Original Message----- ->>From: Ali Raqiq [mailto:mailist00@yahoo.com] ->>Sent: Thursday, August 03, 2000 11:41 PM ->>To: suse-linux-e@suse.com ->>Subject: [SLE] Ethernet card: Need advise. ->> ->> ->>Hi, ->> ->>I did not finish yet building my PC and my question to you is : ->>What is the best ethernet card supported by GNU/Linux? ->> ->>Your help will be appreciated. ->>Many thanks. ->> ->>Ali. ->>Autodidact. ->>Montreal. ->> ->>__________________________________________________ ->>Do You Yahoo!? ->>Kick off your party with Yahoo! I have had nothing but problems with 3com cards also. They are very susceptible to power surges from lightening in our area. Every time we've had a storm, the 3com cards blow up and stop working, while I've never had a problem with any cheap generic cards.
