Hi,
Before i started using Suse8.1 i had a GNU Debian Linux 3.0 with 2.4.17
Kernel ( with some patches ) on my machine, but i had same trouble with
software, so i decide to change.
The installation of Suse8.1 was almost no problem ( only the first try
with GNOME doesn't work, but KDE works fine ).
Now i'm using Suse8.1 / Kernel 2.4.19-4GB since yesterday, and i really
like because everything, except the following works fine.
I have an external Harddisk, connected to my Notebook via IEEE1394 /
Firewire. It works on the GNU Debian Linux OS, but now it doesn't.
I think the problem is, that it doesn't get recognized from the SBP2 -
module.
Also one thing is disturbing me, but i don't know if is has to do with
the real problem: when i call "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" i get this output:
computix@Compus:~/TEmp> cat /proc/scsi/scsi

That doesn't seem to right to me.
Has anyone an idea ?
Would be nice if i get the Harddisk to work.

Below is what I done. I also sent a feedback to SuSE on their website. Maybe if enough people send feedback, they will fix it. It was the same in 8.0 Put the following lines in /etc/modules.conf # IEEE1394 pre-install ohci1394 modprobe ieee1394 pre-install sbp2 modprobe ohci1394 alias char-major-171 raw1394 Then ran SuSEconfig. Tried the ln-s /dev/sda1 /media/firewire but it came up operation not permitted. I ended up changing the /media/firwire permissions to 775 as the /Windows/D directory was. I then changed the fstab entry to be like for the /Windows/D /dev/sda1 /media/firewire vfat noauto,users,gid=users,umask=0002,iocharset=iso8859-1,code=437 0 0 I could then mount the drive with the desktop link by right clicking on it and selecting mount. It would then show up in Konqueror. But if I clicked on the desktop icon, it would not mount. Changed the link type from harddisk to floppy, then it started working. Still have to unplug and plug the drive in after booting, but I can live with that. Art On Sat, 2002-11-16 at 02:30, Markus Jordan wrote:

Hi, I don't have any scsi device, because it is a laptop, but YaST2 makes the CD/CD-R/DVD - Drive a "virtual" SCSI - Device, also the sbp2 driver should do with the external Harddisk ( IDE ). Regards Markus Jostein Berntsen wrote:
