Can anybody explain why the lsb_release (lsb-0.4.1-41.i386.rpm) package has the following dependencies: rpm -qp --requires lsb-0.4.1-41.i386.rpm acct makedev python gettyps mh The package provides only: rpm -qpl lsb-0.4.1-41.i386.rpm /etc/lsb-release /usr/bin/lsb_release <== shell script /usr/share/man/man1/lsb_release.1.gz After the package has been installed it tells that suse-7.2 is adheres the LSB version: "n/a". Should this be 0.9, perhaps 1.0 I though SuSE was one of the best LSB followers, why such a bad(?) job on this package?? I installed the 3 files manually and it works like a sharm..... -- Richard Bos For those who have no home the journey is endless

This are needed for LSB conformance.

No, we cannot write a version number which did not exist when releasing the package.

It is no bad job, you did not understand the reason for this package. If you install it your system should have everything necessary for a LSB conform system installed. Since 7.2 was ready before the final LSB release, it only includes the parts necessary for the LSB-FHS part and so cannot have a LSB version number. We cannot write this is LSB 1.0 if this was not released if there are no test programs to verify this. And we will not add a version number until the workflow, how to test a system for LSB conformance, is implemented.
I installed the 3 files manually and it works like a sharm.....
Yes, and it is useless since it lies now ;-) Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk http://www.suse.de/~kukuk/ kukuk@suse.de SuSE GmbH Deutschherrenstr. 15-19 D-90429 Nuernberg -------------------------------------------------------------------- Key fingerprint = A368 676B 5E1B 3E46 CFCE 2D97 F8FD 4E23 56C6 FB4B
Hi THorsten, thanks for your info. I actually expected something like this (packages needed to become fully lsb complaint). If I would have installed a minimal SuSE 7.2 system and add only the lsb package will that make my SuSE system lsb compliant?? Op zondag 9 september 2001 08:55, schreef Thorsten Kukuk:

No, not in the moment. You need a default system + the lsb package to pass the LSB-FHS 2.1 test. There is still a lot of work for LSB-FHS 2.2 and LSB 1.0.
