[SLE] Re: [PLUG] How to turn power off after shutdown?
Hello Linux folks, Thank you very much for replies and hints. However, nor one of solutions worked out for me. I do have APM enabled in my kernel 2.2.16 but I can't see apm in /proc. I got dual PII 400 Linux box buit on ASUS P2B-DS MB. I red that some dual processor systems do not support APM feature even it is enabled in BIOS. I'm not sure about ASUS dual MB there is no information on their Web Site. Could somebody who has dual processor system tell me if it possible to use APM with it. Thank you in advance. Alex
hit send to quickly,
init 0 halt
both do the same thing as shutdown -h

shutdown -h should just power the system down if your motherboard supports it.

SMP and APM don't get on. From the SMP FAQ at http://www.irisa.fr/prive/mentre/smp-faq/smp-howto-2.html: "(x86 kernel) do NOT enable APM (advanced power management)! APM and SMP are not compatible, and your system will almost certainly (or at least probably ;)) crash while booting if APM is enabled (Jakob Oestergaard). Alan Cox confirms this : 2.1.x turns APM off for SMP boxes. Basically APM is undefined in the presence of SMP systems, and anything could occur." and from the Linux kernel compilation config help (the APM option): "Note that the APM support is almost completely disabled for machines with more than one CPU". -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
