That's not a good sign. You cannot connect to your DNS server(s). Possible reasons: - /etc/resolv.conf contains incorrect nameserver entries - your routing is setup incorrectly - there is a non functioning connection at some point Can you connect to your ISP okay? Evolution's name lookup for that host appears to have failed, given that there could be many reasons for this, it doesn't know why. You say you use dialup - are you dialled up when you try to get your mail? Don't expect Evolution to do that for you, it's not a dialup program, it's a mail/PIM program. If you are dialled up, if your ISP correctly assigning DNS servers to you? Okay, so your problem is you have no nameservers. This occurs when you haven't manually set them, or you have not been dynamically allocated them. From your other emails I would guess it's the latter. So first thing you want to do is get your network running. This means sorting out connection to your ISP. Please describe your setup. Are you using a modem? Do you have a small LAN (ethernet)? Cable modem? DSL modem? Jon -- SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) Linux 2.4.20-4GB-athlon
External modem.
I tried setup with kinternet and to setup the modem with Yast2 as root.
What config files do you need?
The ISP is www.access-4-free.com
The primary dns is 12.155.212.1
the secondary dns is 12.155.208.3
in mail.access-4-free.com
out smtp.access-4-free.com

If Evolution is not a mail handler why does it have a setup routine for dialup and a button for get and send mail? No, I said it *is* a mail handler, not a dialup handler. I've never seen Evolution try to setup a dialup link, and I've been using it since it's very first 0.1 release. As for the get & send mail button, I find that very helpful for getting my mail from my POP server at home. It also comes in handy if you are on a dialup link, and want to wail till you're connected before delivering previously composed emails. Neither of these things imply that Evolution will bring up the dialup link for you. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). I am not running a server for my mail I use dialup.
How is it possible to use Evolution and be able to get and send email?
