How can I make an e-mail server
Hi SuSErs!! I am a very new user and about 2 months ago installed SuSE's 7.2 version on a PC in a network of 5 WIN98 PCs. I would like to make an e-mail server using my linux box for the network. I would like to achieve having local e-mail for all the PCs and all the users, in POP3 format so the users can use their Outlook Express mailer. Can someone give me a hand? I have no idea what to do... Thanx, Chris

That's not that difficult. Actually, I have written a chapter about that in my RedBook: http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/redbook/ Hope that helps, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Deutschherrnstr. 15-19 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/ 90429 Nuernberg, Germany Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Or do without.
Is there somewhere a version of http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/redbook/SG245863.html ...downloadable tar.gzified or tar.bz2ified, rather than the PDF version of Lenz RedBook? my usual means to download it are all failing. Merci. O. L. mailto:olivier.lichtenberger@numericable.fr

You mean a tarball of all HTML pages? Not that I know of - I would recommend to go with the PDF. I don't know where the .pdf file is to be found. The .html address is not available. Where would I find this Lenz Redbook file? --doug At 14:34 02/07/2002 +0100, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

While SuSE's not running, delete SuSE's partition. (Deleting it while SuSE is running is possibly asking for undefined behavior.)
i can't boot any other OS bootable CDROM, or a DOS floppy.
Why not?
delete suse's partition! how? since i can't boot a floppy or another os cd... when i try, the system says it is not the correct bootable type. ? rf -----Original Message----- From: Joshua Lee [mailto:yid@SoftHome.net] Sent: 13 February, 2002 2:18 PM To: Rick Francis; suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] how is suse removed On Tuesday 12 February 2002 08:38 pm, Rick Francis wrote:

This is not a SuSE issue. You've got bigger issues then any OS can fix. I know your trying to trouble shoot it.. I would just disconnect the drive and try to boot from floppy or CD then. If you still can't then you most likely should hunt through your BIOS because something else is hammered. I say this because I do not have any version of Windows on my machine (well in my house for that matter) and I have booted from a Win98 boot disk at least 3 times to do BIOS updates. * Rick Francis (rfrancis@mindspring.com) [020213 17:39]: ->delete suse's partition! how? -> ->since i can't boot a floppy or another os cd... -> ->when i try, the system says it is not the correct bootable type. -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "I've never been quarantined. i may agree, however, besides an initial fsck, the installation proceeds perfectly, only on reboot does it fail, asking me to use the correct boot type?! -----Original Message----- From: Ben Rosenberg [mailto:ben@whack.org] Sent: 13 February, 2002 9:57 PM To: SLE Subject: Re: [SLE] how is suse removed This is not a SuSE issue. What Ben said is right. If the BIOS boot order is correct, but you still can't boot a known-to-work bootable floppy or CD, the problem isn't anything to do with SuSE linux. If your system reports such disks as unbootable, they are set in BIOS to boot before your linux hard drive, and the disks themselves are not defective, you have other system problems that I can't guess at. If the Linux partitions are not trying to boot, they can't be responsible for preventing booting from another device. You could try swapping out the floppy drive just in case, and of course it must be set to boot before your hd. Also, as Ben said, unplug the hd from the IDE cable. Sorry not to be of more help - come back with more details if no good. Best Fergus On Thursday 14 February 2002 01:35, you wrote:

Hello people! I'm having a problem with booting linux from my hard drive. I can boot the PC alright from floppy, then using my hd as /, but booting from the hard drive itself just won't work. I've tried to set up lilo in both superblock and mbr. No effect. The PC simply doesn't show anything after POST has completed. The screen just stays as is. No lock-up though, e.g. num-lock key still works. Also, when I try to boot from the first SuSE CD, my computer restarts when he's trying to boot the cd. CD 2 works just fine....??!! What is going on? Here's my config: SuSE 7.3 Pro. HP Netserver LS series double AIC 7870 onboard 3 scsi hdds 1 scsi cd-rom drive Maybe the cdrom is too old to boot? It works from the Windows 98 CD... Hope to hear from you all soon. Happy Linuxing! :-) Sincerely Daniel
