Check /etc/sysconfig/kernel MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="reiserfs,<megaraid>" to see if you are loading the scsi driver as well as reiserfs. You should be able to boot from CD and do a repair action. I have always used a roundabout way by booting timos rescuecd or knoppix, mounting the root partition as /mnt, then "chroot /mnt", making the changes and running mkinitrd, then rebooting. Hi
thank you
but on rescue system, i've added this line on /etc/fstab
/dev/sda3 /suse reiserfs defaults 1 1
if i try a mount it says:
/dev/sda3 is not a valid block device..
i think because the module drivers for scsi raid controller are missing..
what can i do..maybe try to load them from a floppy?
in caso yes..how can i do it
thanks a lot

Boot from the CDROM, select the Installation routine again, and when you get to the screen that has all of the installation settings (Packages, Boot Loader, Time Zone, Partitioning, etc., etc.) use ALT-F9 (or any other Fx key that gets you to a root command prompt). You can use the pico editor to take a look at /etc/sysconfig/kernel. My guess is that the initrd line is missing the megaraid driver module. If so, then when the installer ran mkinitrd, no module was compiled in and so the system can't find the boot disk. If this is indeed the case, then all you need to do is add the name of the controller module to the line, save the file, and run mkinitrd. Then, when you reboot the system the installation should proceed normally. Here's the line from one of my machines: INITRD_MODULES="dpt_i2o reiserfs" Hope this helps, Mark -- ____________________________________________________ Another Message From... L. Nope, the rescue system isn't loading the megaraid driver I bet. Try lsmod from a command prompt to be sure. That's why I suggested running the installer again, so you could manually select the module and be sure it was loaded before you dropped out to a command prompt. Chances are the rescue system won't have the module to load, either... On Thursday, October 21, 2004 09:05 am, Alan Civita wrote:

so now i'm on a root shell..but i cannot mount the /dev/sda3...
it should be already mounted?

You usually does SuSEconfig which would not overwrite the config files, so I'd expect it all to be OK. Asking the obvious perhaps, but is /etc/sysconfig/kernel still OK?
