Has ANYONE been about to get the last few builds of OpenOffice to run under SuSE 7.1? Or am I just special in that it appears to start..I get a splash screen then it aborts? This is highly annoying...Is the bloody thing built with GCC-2.96-RH or something. -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org "Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom" --General Patton
I got the late June build to run. That's build 632. I just stuck it in and it's been running ever since. That's with KDE 2.1.2 and SuSE 7.1. Cheers Rich Star Office 5.2 is also installed on the same machine. Didn't try running Open Office without 5.2 installed so I don't know about that. Same here. If you run it from the bash shell you will notice it is looking for some program - I can't remember what. -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. installing previous build, you must wait about 10...15 minuts (or maybe a little bit more) to let installation to finish after the last screen appears. so is it written in openoffice.org previous build release notes. With last build there is not such a 'feature'. sorry, that the answer goes not to the first message in thread, I've deleted it, but to call an unfinished piece of opensource software 'f***ing' is a little bit mean. ain
a splash screen then it aborts?
Hello When I added a link (icon) to netscape (/opt/netscape/netscape) on my newly installed 7.2 KDE desktop, and click on it, it tries to open netscape twice, and netscape pops up a window that it found a netscape.lock. If I accept the "error", it will actually open 2 copies of netscape.. strange? Other icons work fine. This does not happen if I run xterm-> "netscape". As said, I just installed default system, no modifications since. Has anyone had this before? Where should I start to look for correcting this one. J. Tamminen

Could it be that you've doubleclicked? You can change this behavior in the control panel under Mouse --> General..look for the section about Icons. You can change it to doubleclick you like. -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org "Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom" --General Patton
Hello As me being a Finnish, I believe that I do understand the choice that Mr. Torvalds made... It is the way of Finnish to get noticed of something that they can do right, and not get rich by robbing other people. Ofcourse someone could say that he would be better off if he made some other decision... But who knows?.. Is Bill happy? I don't believe so! I believe also that Linux did spread more wildly then anyone did expect.. Maybe there was no real "competition" out there :-) But one should not forget, that there is huge amount of other people involved, who should also get as much credit as Linus does.
From me, Thank You everyone who is involved in developing Linux-environment!
J. Tamminen Finland Ps. I almost know personally Mr. Tornvalds... I used to live about 5 miles from him.. :-) Never did see him though..:-( Computer Books For Less wrote:

Dan,
Is it just me or have they changed the headline? It now reads "The quiet revolutionary".

About a month ago I finished a book called "Just for Fun" it's all about Linus Torvalds. A lot of you may be supprised just how much alike we all are. (at least for me I see a lot of the same ideals) It was a pretty good read. for anyone that want's to learn more about Linus. On Monday 23 July 2001 10:13 am, you wrote:

What does the bible say? "It is easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle, than it is for a rich man to get into heaven" Would you rather be riding with Linus or Bill when you pull up to the "pearly gates"? I do believe Mr. Torvalds is athiest (or agnostic...same difference to me).
