Booting from RAID0 in Linux using GRUB?
Hello SuSE folkz, Recently I've bought Dual-channel PCI to Serial ATA HighPoint RoketRaid 1520 card. BIOS sees this card as a bootable device. Is there any chance to boot Linux from RAID0 partition using GRUB? Thank you in advance for any ideas or sources of information. Alex

GRUB currently can't boot off of RAID partitions. Either use LILO or boot from a non-RAID Partition. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de Development SuSE Linux AG private: pth@t-link.de

Though this is accepted wisdom on this list it is not true. I have Dell Poweredge servers booting off hardware raid using grub. The initial problems I had, (see thread "Suse 8.1 install hangs loading aacraid on Dell 2650 with LSI perc 4/Di") were solved by upgrading the kernel to k_smp-2.4.19-163 Changing the boot loader to lilo proved to be a furphy. FWIW the grub website makes no mention of problems with raid. michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166
