USB connected keyboard - more than a slight hassle
I have just connected the Logitech MX Duo (keyboard & optical mouse, both cordless) to one of the USB ports. Everything is working fine -- except at one very important stage. I dual-boot, and SUSE happens to be the default into which I boot on startup but I cannot boot into what-shall-not-be-mentioned because the keyboard is 'dead'. The keyboard is active when the system is initially booting (BIOS) but then disappears when the SUSE boot menu comes up so I cannot select any of the startup options, and doesn't become active until halfway thru the SUSE boot process (when the screen is showing Booting the System Press F2 for verbose mode). What needs to be done, please, in order to get the keyboard to be active for me to be able to make selections from the SUSE startup menu (the one wot grub causes to be displayed)? Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.
hi I had a similar thing happen on my laptop. I had to turn of legacy usb support in the BIOS. Also for some funny reason if while booting you continuously hit the tab key it worked once it finished booting. This is just a shot in the dark. Chris Basil Chupin wrote:

Thank you, Chris, for the hint which solved the problem I mention above (but now I have another (?) bigger hassle). I have a new motherboard and haven't yet got used to it- unlike my previous mobos some of the menus are more than 1 page big and so I keep forgetting to scroll down and don't see all the parameters to be set. Therefore I missed the one which is USB KEYBOARD Enable/Disable. Your message got me on to the right track. So now I can select the options from the SUSE startup menu. But there is another problem. The keyboard AND mouse are not active when I boot into THAT system :-). The braindead thing sits there waiting for me to type in my password to logon - but there is no keyboard (nor mouse, but fortunnately I have another USB (trackball) mouse installed and I can use that to reboot the computer :-)). Ah well, I'll worry about this one later on today after I get some sleep. Thanks for your help. Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.

A shot in the dark here , but have you checked your startup log? IT may be something silly like not having the cordless modules installed? I know in 8.1 we used to setup the cordless mice/keyboards w/ ones that were cordless.. for some reason, if we forgot, the keyboard and mice behaved as expected ( they worked just fine, even tho the mice were 5 button ones .. It didn't like to boot them tho. It didn't mind, tho , if wee booted w/ a corded set and then swapped them out for the cordless sort. All three boxes have Logitech keyboards and Logitech optical mice , er one mouse isn't the optical it's one of the ones w/ a mouse ball, and 5 buttins plus the wheel !

I believe that you should probably start by reading your boot logs to see if anything odd is happening. after that maybe some hardware guru can aide you to full mouse/keyboard cordless joy. <g>
It truly is a joy to sit in a chair that has a builtin shoulder massager and not have to be hunched over a desk... really useful on the really "tense" days . <G>

See my reply to Chris: problem solved by me actually looking for and seeing a parameter in the BIOS and then setting it to ENABLE. And as far as THAT other operating system is concerned, I solved that by temporarily plugging-in a PS/s keyboard, logging in and inserting a few suppositories into THAT system's brain - ie, several drivers had to be installed before it recognised the keyboard even though it is activated in the BIOS (which is where SUSE finds/recognises it).
