Can anyone get "meld" to work on suse?
I'm trying to use meld http://meld.sourceforge.org Suse 9.0, all patched up, I get: jam176@suse:~/Meld/meld-0.9.1> ./meld ** (meld:3238): WARNING **: could not get type `gtk.gdk.Event' ready ** (meld:3238): WARNING **: could not get type `gtk.gdk.Font' ready ** (meld:3238): WARNING **: could not get type `gtk.gdk.Color' ready <Snip lots more gtk.gdk.X grumbling> Traceback (most recent call last): File "./meld", line 69, in ? import gtk File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py", line 43, in ? from _gtk import * ImportError: No module named _numpy Same with gtk-2.2.4 from user-local-bin.org Googling hasn't shed any light on it, any clues? michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166

The problem isn't with gtk, it's with python
Googling hasn't shed any light on it, any clues?
numpy is in the package python-numeric on the suse CDs

There's a Suse RPM python-numeric-23.0-72 Installing that has cut the grumbling, but now I need "gconf" the python bindings for Gnome. There is a package gnome-python-gconf but I can't find it in Suse-land. Sorry about my ignorance in this but how do I find what provides a given python function? michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166

It's part of the package gnome-python. So it's there in, /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gnome/gconf.so but python isn't finding it. If I put a symlink to it in the current working directory, meld works. How do I get python2.3 to update it's include path if installing a module's RPM doesn't do it automatically? I'm guessing that meld is importing it as simply "gconf", which is incorrect. Try changing: import gconf to: from gnome import gconf - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAKnpQ+FOexA3koIgRAslJAJ9AFr/lJPAFzgsLYqaD1T1GLs9b5wCgtZyC 6JlfxBcxGUq6WZ1U5BwCA2A= =al83 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
