Starting processes automatically ? - a newbie question
Hello list participants, I would like to startup a program/process/job (description ?) automatically when the machine is booted up. What file needs to be modified to do that? I tried rc.config by way of yast2 but it did not do any good. The script calls several scripts and programs which are all in the same directory. I can manually start the job when I am in that directory. Accordingly, it seems to me, a path needs to be defined. Which file needs to be modified to define the path? Thank you for taking time to reply. Heri Riesbeck

boot.local

The script that you put in boot local, should have as it's first line #!/bin/sh cd 'directory-with-scripts' #to cd to the directory myscript #to run the script -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
Hi Heri, What version of SuSE Linux are you using? As a start parhaps you should check out the contents of the directory /etc/rc.d which contains scripts which MAY be invoked at boot (more precisely at changes of run level). Also have a look in /etc/rc.d/rc5.d within which are sym links to the scripts in /etc/rc.d. You will note that the links start as either "Snn....." or "Knn....". The former are used to start the corresponding service with the latter used to stop the service. Hope this is enough to get you started. Kind regards, Simon Heribert Riesbeck wrote:
