Suse and infra-red port..
I'd like to know if someone have any ideas how to use laptops' infra-red port together with mobile-phone so that GPRS phone can be used as modem to surf the web.. I have Suse 8.0 pro and Nokia phone... Any ideas are welcome :-) P_p

Hi, with SuSE 8.1 infrared support worked right out of the box, there is also something in the manual about it.. Before I did search the web for howtos, but it was not not necessary, because it was all already installed. Maybe it is the same for 8.0 ? HTH, Matt T.

Search google for IrDa and Linux and I guess you'll get a lot of hits. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de Development SuSE Linux AG private: pth@t-link.de

With irdadump I can see that my linux box connects to the phone via infra red, but that connection won't last long (phone kills it after 2 min, which is its' timeout time if nothing is sent to it) I found some howtos about using GPRS, but didn't yet manage to get all setting right I guess. Though I haven't gone through all the possibilities yet. P_P
