7.1. does not install on Dell Optiplex GXM 5133
Hello all, I have problems installing 7.1 on a Dell Optiplex GXM 5133. When booting from cd-rom or the floppy disk, I see the SuSE splash screen, but than it hangs. I don't even get the "boot:" prompt. If have seen this problems with 6.3 as well I believe. Does anyone know what the prorbem might be and how to tackle it? I have successfully booted the Dell Optiplex with a 6.4 boot disk, but I can't finish off the 7.1 installation with it (kernel/modules incompatibilities). Your help is much appreciated. -- ---------------------------------------------------- Koos Pol T: +31 20 3116122 Systems Administrator F: +31 20 3116200 Compuware Europe B.V. As booting from a 6.4 disk works, it seems like that something in the beginning of the boot process is different with 7.1. As I don't even get a "boot:" prompt, it is still in the 1st or 2nd phase of the boot process. It hasn't reached the 3rd phase yet. Apparantly there is some hardware dependency involved, but I don't see how... :-( | Also, what hardware i in this Dell? After yesterdays suggestion I booted from cdrom 2, but that gives the same. Apparantly there is someting fundementaly changes between 6.4 and 7.1 (6.4 is the only version I could succefully boot from floppy disk or cd-rom) I am afraid I have to bug the guys at support. I didn't register my copy yet, hoping the list would give me a clue... Hope they can discover what the problem is. Nevertheless if anyone can come up with another idea, I'd be pleased to know. Thanks for your help. Cheers, -- ---------------------------------------------------- Koos Pol T: +31 20 3116122 Systems Administrator F: +31 20 3116200 Compuware Europe B.V. Have you tried to press SHIFT on bootup as described in this SDB article? http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/mfrueh_hwcheck_booten.html Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/ 90443 Nuernberg, Germany To love her was a liberal education.
