Indeed 'is' there any difference between the OSS version of SuSE 10 on DVD and Eval version on DVD? I ask this question because 'Linux Magazine' have announced that they will be shipping the full version of SuSE 10 on DVD, not the OSS version, with their next copy of the magazine. If this is the case it is a big disincentive to buying the boxed version. After all, we no longer get the superb manuals - down to one install manual now - and if you are an experienced SuSE/GNU Linux user then you 'probably' will not need to contact the support line. Oh, I believe the magazine is due out on December 2nd in the UK. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. The commercial, boxed DVD has packages not on the eval DVD.

If they're doing that, then presumably it's under some sort of agreement with Novell, perhaps including a fee. But that's just a hunch, of course.

I'm sure the plane tickets from California will more than make up for the savings on the DVD from the boxed set... What language do they speak in England?

To get back to the original topic. I take it, then, there are in fact three different versions of installable SuSE 10 available. The OSS version, the downloadable Eval version and then the all singing, all dancing (isn't it only because it has Java support) boxed retail pay version. If this is the case why bother with an OSS and an Eval version? The Eval version could just as easily have been opened up to the community. Assuming the core product is the same of course. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. I subscribe to LJ here in the States, but I pick up a couple UK magazines at a local shop (don't have the spare cash to throw at a subscription - an AMD64 comes first), but at $15 a piece! Way overpriced, but I happen to be a big fan of Linux Magazine (among others). Maybe I should just go for the subscription... Joseph M. Gaffney

I recieve that fabulous magazine here in the US. It costs $100/year, which is an easy tax write-off. When they shipped 9.3 earlier this summer it was the full DVD version. I recently looked at the Mandriva 2006 and it compared to the Power Pack version. Hence I suspect they'll ship the full DVD version.

That depends on if you're in Edinburgh or Cardiff. ;) -- kai www.perfectreign.com linux - genuine windows replacement part
