[opensuse] How can I set the printer (or document) default paper size in OpenOffice.org?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm using "/usr/lib/ooo-2.0/program/spadmin", as root, from OpenOffice_org-2.4.1.6-1.1...rpm in 11.0. I select a printer, go to properties, paper: it shows "letter". I change to "A4", Ok. I repeat, and it still shows "letter", the change did not hold. The same printer in cups shows "A4" as the size. This is a nuisance. :-/ Every time I create a document in OOo, I have to set the paper size in two sites: first in format/page, then again when going to print in the printer properties. If I change the printer, again. And when I exit the printer dialog, it asks to save the page size into the document. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Hi Carlos, in OOo, this setting currently seems to be locale-dependent. For a de_DE locale, I get A4, for e.g. an en_US one I get letter. There are bug reports about that already: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=91588 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=92819 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=272406 HTH, -- Thorsten -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Argh. My system locale is en_US, but I set OOo to Spanish settings (options/language). But this does not explain why "spadmin" can't change it.
There are bug reports about that already:
Ok, I'll have some reading. [...]
Yes, this is the issue. No solution given.
Too technical for me :-)
No, I can't see the Novell bug: ] You are not authorized to access bug #272406 :-/ So far as I can see, last activity on this was last August, and there is no solution at all for us users. I got some interesting results by running: LC_PAPER="es_ES.UTF-8" /usr/lib/ooo-2.0/program/spadmin so I will try to write that setting somewhere. I really wonder why OOo has to take that setting into account instead of the one in the printer configuration in cups or its own spadmin :-/ Ok, thanks, at least I can do something to hack it up. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. My OpenOffice show A4 always ... Have you tried to place your locale at RC_LC_PAPER on the sysconfig editor. I've placed pt_PT.UTF-8 and it always show A4. of course OpenOffice should remember your last/default change but, this is a nice workaround in most cases.

Not bad idea. Changed. Will see if it works, when I log in again. Thanks.

Yes, it should. It did on previous versions, I think. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Hi This can be fixed in the default template, as here: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=802, although this man would like to use Letter instead of A4. I don't think so. This particular problem affects even for old documents with new printers (my case). The document is defined for a page size of A4, but when I go to print, and look at the printer properties, it is set to "letter", even though cups says "a4". It ignores what cups says the printer has and what the document defines. The solution, while the bug is really solved, to change the paper locale. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkjY3EsACgkQtTMYHG2NR9WOvQCfcgGgsTjpsAbbjXZ53c2nxkgi v5EAoIAem4sDWRBQOYxdiiGMPL9bCo4/ =6YYM -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
