[opensuse] Video Processing
I have two parts of a video. One part is in a folder labeled AUDIO_TS and the other is in a folder labeled VIDEO_TS. (Did I mention that I'm a video newbie?) Since SMplayer will play the video, I assume that it is possible to merge these two folders ending up with a complete video that could be written, for example, to a DVD. Can anyone point me to a way to accomplish this feat? I'd appreciate it. they are already the components of a video dvd. if you run $ mkisofs -o dvd.iso -dvd-video you will have a .iso file that you can burn to a dvd, or do directly: $ growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/scd0 /path/to/dir/ -dvd-video skipping the creation of the temporary .iso file. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the effort but it didn't work. Here's the response I got: dhenson@Earth-svr:~> mkisofs -o dvd.iso -dvd-video I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings) genisoimage: Missing pathspec. Usage: genisoimage [options] -o file directory ... Use genisoimage -help to get a list of valid options. You need to add the path to the directory where the _TS directories are. So for example if you have /home/dhenson/video/AUDIO_TS /home/dhenson/video/VIDEO_TS then you would do mkisofs -o dvd.iso -dvd-video /home/dhenson/video but even easier would be to just use k3b. Select to create a movie dvd project, and it will create AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories on the dvd for you, and then you can just copy things over. Saves a lot of headache in my experience Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Neat. I use k3b all the time but I didn't think of that trick. I also prefer gui solutions so k3b is perfect. Thanks to all for your help. By the way, can anyone recommend a good video editor suitable for a video newbie? Try avidemux for your editing needs works quite well if you are looking to chop parts out of a video. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sounds like it'll meet my needs. Two questions. 1. Is there any difference between the gtk version and the qt4 version other than one looks better than the other? 2. Do you know of any good tutorials? There appears to be a lot of tutorials out there and I'm not even sure of what I'm looking for except it should be very basic, preferably starting out with video basics? Any recommendations appreciated. Don Henson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use the gtk version as I had too many problems with the qt4 one. I learned by using, trial and error. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You might want to search Linux Journal's Web site. I've read good articles on video editing in the paper version. Linux Journal http://www.linuxjournal.com/ Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you mount a video DVD and have a look at its files, you will se it contains those two directories. Use k3b to create yours, as recomended by Anders. Hint: you could use k3b to create the iso without burning it yet, and test to see if you can play it (perhaps loop mounting it first). That way you can test the procedure without creating too many tea sets ;-p - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Or try to play it with xine (mplayer also can do this) xine dvd:///full_path_to.iso -- Frank Fiene / IT-Services Fon: +49 2526 29-6200 Fax: +49 2526 29-16-6200 mailto: ffiene@veka.com www.veka.com VEKA AG Dieselstr. 8 48324 Sendenhorst Deutschland/Germany Vorstand: Andreas Hartleif (Vorsitzender), Dr. Andreas W.
