hi all, Got some inspiration from the previous mails about updating. I am on 9.1 Pro. I want to upgrade from kde 3.2 to kde 3.4. The basic thing I want to know is, are there any risks involved with the upadate and also specifically with kde 3.? I don't want to screw up my system after the update. Also The avlb entry has a beta version. Any probs with the Amarok beta? The sequence of things that I have done are: I have changed my installation source to one of the mirrors in Indonesia and pointed it to the proper directory for updating kde. Specifically, http://suse.cbn.net.id/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source. I disabled the previous source from the CD Install and Remove Software. zzz all Update if new version is available. In my experience (I have upgraded two SuSE 9.1 installations to KDE 3.4 with YaST): 1: KDE 3.4 "b" may cause KDM not to show GNOME in the session type menu. 2: I notice some random crashes and bugs. 3: You may need to fix some file associations after the upgrade. 3: KDE 3.4 is awesome (together with Konqueror 3.4, KDevelop 3.2 and KMail 1.8, but also PIM-Akgregator) and I recommend it, unless stability is _very_ important for you, so better install a new 9.3 which includes kde3.4 -- NSK http://portal.wikinerds.org
