anyone else have an idea? =( ------------------------------------------------------------- morituri te salutant fur die ganze familie! that
everyone with RedHat 7.2 are having trouble with... I was just wondering if you any of y'all have this problem also, and if you fixed it, how. My uncle and his friend todd have used *nix systems for 90% of their life (usually SCO) and neither of them have ever seen this nor do they know how to fix it... so i'd appreciate the help. thanks.
Try adding a line as root to /etc/wvdial.conf, "Stupmid Mode= 1", without the "'s of course. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org

I just fought a problem caused by last nights upgrade via YOU to the latest KDE3.02 with KPPP. I had to add a file, /etc/ppp/peers/kppp, with "plugin passwordfd" as its contents to get kppp to work again. I would suggest you check /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial and make sure it has a reference to this plugin. Alternatively to wvdial, use kppp. HTH -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. KPPP, KInternet and wvdial all return the same problems... i'll look for
that plugin tonight and see if it works.

After about 30 seconds inactivity the modem timed out and hung up. It looks like ppp wasn't started at the remote end. You're using wvdial, right? What does the wvdial log look like? Have you ever been able to log on using linux? How did you set it up in XP? It could be you need some sort of script to connect that your XP install routine set up for you, the wvdial log should reveal that. //Anders

actually, the timing on my log was completely different because i had to cut and paste the sent line from another one of those unfourtanates who can't connect. on mine, one that line was sent, the modem would disconnect withing seconds

wvdial/kinternet/kppp - all logs were identical... i grepped 'em and then eye compared them... etc etc etc, they're 100% identical

with RedHat 7.1 and enjoyed the exp. then i heard so much about SuSe, i just had to get 8.0... now i'm offline w/ it and my RH discs are missing... i'm seriously thinking about going back, but then 1) i'd be wasting money; 2) i'm liking SuSe even more by the day despite this XP auto-detected the modem and has no problems with either (softmodem made by Conexant and the PCMCIA by Zoom). ... baffling, no?

Doesn't kppp give some kind of error box when pppd drops? FYI, I also have SuSE 8.0, ppp 2.4.1, and I regularly use kppp to call in to our office server. The update last night through me for a loop for a while, but I was able to track it down with the help of the error message. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. The error message reports exactly what i posted as the error, and "Wow,
can't help you there" as the automatic debug response or whatever below
that. =\ what update are you referring to...?
