7.1 on a Promise FastTrak100
Hi Has anyone done this? I have found the guide for doing it under 7.0 which requires a special boot disk and (potentially) module for the card. However in the corresponding updates directory for 7.1 there is no mention of Promise drivers and modules - leading me to believe it has been integrated by now. Yet, when I install as normal, Suse cannot see the disks and I cant see a particular Promise module name to load at install/boot time. Any help appreciated. If you have the 2.2.18 kernel and up it is supported. I have this chipset on my motherboard. It works quite well with 7.1..I used it first with the 2.2.18 kernel then switched up to the 2.4.2 kernel..both worked just fine. -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

How do you get the full 100 though? My mobo supports 66/100 and the kernel (2.4.4) only supports 66, according to the boot up log. -Steven

Depends on the drive(s) you've attached to it. But you wouldn't notice it anyways, as there is *no* drive currently available that really uses the increased speed. Heck, the fastest ATA disks currently available only just exceed ATA33 speeds. For a test, just do 'hdparm -t /dev/<your disk>' as user root for a few times to get a better sample. I bet it won't even exceed ATA33. -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390

You forgot to mention that the controller is only supported as an ATA100 controller. The fakeRAID functionality isn't support, as Promise won't open up their Documentation. Promise is said to be working on a driver, but this will be binary only and therefore *not* going to be included in SuSE Linux. -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390
