[opensuse] 42.2 - check for uri 'http://conncheck.opensuse.org' failed
Moving a machine from 42.1/LXDE(gtk) to 42.2/XFCE by fresh install. What is this, which repeats every 5 minutes in the log: NetworkManager[1581]: <info> connectivity: check for uri 'http://conncheck.opensuse.org' failed with 'Could not connect: Network is unreachable' My network is obviously working perfectly fine (IPv4 only here). Google gives me an archived thread from last November (about 42.2RC2) which ends with Carlos being asked about having a proxy (he didn't, I don't either) and then nothing more after he answered that question. Thanks. It is an URL use for testing if the connection works. With Firefox the connection makes, but the page is empty.

Ah! :-) I see one instance in Jan 08, 2017, with "Too many DNS queries". That one was solved, a configuration issue. The one you say was in the factory mail list: "[opensuse-factory] What is NM test on conncheck.opensuse.org?" Whatever it was disappeared: I don't see the messages in the log now. I only see a related message on February. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Yes.

Well, this is a brand new clean install with all updates so the problem is still there. Do you remember doing anything to stop the messages? There is a message in that thread which tells how to shut off the log messages through config but that doesn't fix anything; all that does is hides whatever bug is in there to begin with and which is causing the error messages. "Out of sight, out of mind" as we say here... Ralph -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah. Did I...? :-? I see this rule: # NetworkManager into separate file and stop their further processing # if ($programname == 'NetworkManager') or \ ($programname startswith 'nm-') \ then { -/var/log/NetworkManager stop } So lets go see that file. [...] Yes indeed, the error messages are there. Not very often, though. For the record: apparently the error (as in message title) has completely disappeared after I disabled IPv6, which is unavailable here, in config. Don't know if that is what resolves the problem or if it was just coincidental but no more "conncheck.opensuse.org" messages in log now over several reboots and I did not disable the reporting in any way. How did you disable it? Which config?

I used nm-connection-editor and I think all it writes to is /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/* but check that. The only change was 'method=ignore' for IPv6. No, I did not try to switch it back to see if the error returned but I could do that when I get back to that machine tomorrow, if asked.
