This week I had reason to fire up a few old 486's that were running SuSE 6.3. Both failed loading ne.o. Using /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_open /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ethdev_init /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_interrupt /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol NS8390_init /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_close I found an post from 1999 to this list but there was no reply. modprobe ne gives me init_module: Device or resource busy Looking at the logs both machine booted fine when they were put away. They both have the DE250 network card. any ideas? -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 Open Source Weekend http://www.osw.ca

I found another kernel on the machine in the loadlin directory. When started from DOS using loadlin it works, but not if I start the same kernel from lilo. cmp says they differ 509 2 3 510 3 10
any ideas?

I dunno, when I used 6.3, I didn't have any network cards and didn't know the first thing about networking in any ways. But please keep us updated. I still have my 6.3 CDs and two 486 at home that I want to put to some use. Some of the ISA cards I have are sure to be ne compatibles.... -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za

What file are you comparing? My guess is that the old good booting kernel is not the one you are trying to use. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
