there's a pretty good rundown of it -- and of the nifty new qt -- in the top story at http://www.linuxandmain.com/news/
it's a big day for the community, that's for sure.
Guys, credit us with *some* intelligence... (Well, maybe not all of us) Of course it's an April Fool. Do you really think that Linus would choose to quit Linux development at midnight on April Fools' Day? Of course, I have no proof, but I'd be willing to bet a crisp tenner on it... (GBP, no new-fangled euro things round 'ere) As to whether it's posted by Linus or a spoof, I won't comment... And spaghetti *does* grow on trees. -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com

No, the 'Spaghetti Incident' was 18 years before I was born, but it's so famous... Anyway, I thought it might be fun to see how many people understood the comment... -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England

Bingo. Got one. :-) There is a long-running BBC current affairs documentary series called "Panorama". I'm trying to think of a foreign equivalent; I guess "60 Minutes" is probably closest. Anyway, back in 1957 when this happened, Panorama and BBC journalism in general was considered to be the utmost height of journalistic integrity. At the time, the programme was presented by the highly respectable Richard Dimbleby. On April Fools' Day, they broadcast a film about how good the Spaghetti Harvest was in the Alps on the Swiss/Italian border - including very convincing pictures of spaghetti growing on trees. Anyway, AIUI, they had to broadcast a retraction later because so many people were more willing to believe that spaghetti grew on trees, than were willing to believe that Panorama would broadcast a false story. It probably goes down as one of the most successful April Fools' jokes ever played. (don't forget that this was in 1957, when I believe that people were generally much less cynical about the media...) -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England
